Scaling up investment for Covid-19 economic recovery and jobs in Africa

In our new paper with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, we suggest ways African governments, donors, development finance institutions, and impact investors can align their priorities to support investment that creates jobs and incomes at scale. Written by Jake Cusack, Jonathan Said, Pooja Yadav, Matt Tilleard, and Thomas Flahive, the report expands on our past investment facilitation work and provides perspective on how to prioritize sub-sectors, the role of government in transaction facilitation, and the feedback loop between “deals” and the macro policy enabling environment.

Sebastian Deschler Presents Mpatamanga Power Project at Hydro 2019

Sebastian Deschler, our General Counsel and Charles M Eberly, Head of Clean Power Advisory, attended Hydro 2019, in Porto, Portugal. Sebastian presented “Mpatamanga – An Innovative Way to Bring Large Scale Hydropower PPPs to Market and a Unique Opportunity for Potential Sponsors.” Mpatamanga, a 350MW peaking hydropower project on the Shire River, is central to the Government of #Malawi’s strategy for expanding the country’s generation capacity. The Government with co-development partner IFC – International Finance Corporation InfraVentures, supported by advisors led by the USAID Southern Africa Energy Program, a Power Africa Initiative, negotiated up-front on applicable commercial principles and developed the project agreements based on recent precedent. The upcoming tender will present a uniquely attractive opportunity for potential sponsors. Read more on Mpatamanga: www.mpathydro.com
